記念日における家族の集合写真をモチーフとした映像作品。既に他界している両親と三姉妹、5人のファミリーポートレート（本作）は、遺影に写る女性の法要の後に動画によって撮影された。動かない二つの遺影と時々瞬きをしながら少しばかり揺れる三人の視線は、ともに画面を見つめる我々に向けられる。黎明期の写真撮影は長時間露光によるものであり、人物の場合数分間同じ姿勢で留まるのが普通であったので、ここではそれに倣って同じポーズをとり続ける。また、かつて日本に写真技術が伝来した際「写真を撮られると魂が抜かれる」という迷信があったが、ここには既に魂を抜かれた2人の人物（の写真）と、これから時間が経っていつの日にか魂が抜かれる予定の人間が、フレームの中で同居している。つまり本作は、50秒間動く写真である。
This video work takes as its motif the family portrait traditionally taken to commemorate special occasions. The portrait of five family members—two deceased parents and their three daughters—was filmed on video following a memorial service for the woman pictured in one of the two memorial portraits.
Two motionless photographic portraits and the three living figures, whose gazes shift slightly as they occasionally blink, all look out toward us as we look back at them through the screen. In the early days of photography, long exposure times meant that subjects commonly had to remain in the same pose for several minutes. Here, the three figures follow this convention, holding the same pose throughout the recording.
When photography was first introduced to Japan, there was a popular superstition that being photographed would cause one’s soul—and with it, one’s life—to be taken away. Within this frame, photographs of two people from whom life has already departed coexist with three people who are still living, but who, with the passage of time, will inevitably meet the same fate someday.
In other words, this work is a photograph that moves for fifty seconds.
